Understanding digital cameras - what is the white balance?

White balance, partly refers to the way the colors of a photo or film are affected by the color of the lamp used to illuminate the scene. The most common example that we see is the photos taken without flash by the lounge yellow light projection. The process of reducing or eliminating this color cast is called white balance adjustment.
